On a private note..

Only a fast update tonight. I spent the day basking in the attention of my eldest uncle, my dead fathers oldest brother. I have not seen him in over 10 years but he looked, moved and sounded so much like my father it was eerie! I loved meeting him again but it woke up a longing I thought I had buried some time ago..

On a much happier note he and my cousin (ie his daugther) met my children for the first time. All in all, a very happy gathering of kinship.

This is the manicure I'm currently wearing:
Misa Sun Kissed, 3 layers and top coat. A little tricky to get even and nice, but well worth the effort. Duochrome Lavender/Gold, beauty!!

  1. I love Misa polishes and that's a pretty one! Dou Chromes are one of my favorites. Glad you had a good time with your relatives and even though it may be a bit odd seeing your Uncle because of the similarities to your Dad, it's still nice to get together :)

  2. Yes, it was an odd feeling, but not in a bad way at all. my dad died 1996, so it was a long time ago, and the grief one feels when a relative dies slowly turns into a vague longing mixed with the joy of all the happy memories of the person. To meet my uncle after all theese years startled me a little because it brought back the memories of how much I loved my father. But bringing such memories back is a very good thing, and it made me happy.

And this was supposed to be a nail blog, and look were I'm heading, talking about my long dead father.. I'll make up for it in posts to come.. ;-)

  3. How wonderful and sad for you. I had an Uncle that looked like my Dad. Unfortunately he died before my father. My father has been dead since 1981. It's been a very long time. I still miss him so much. Once in awhile I get a whiff of something in the air that smells like him. It's so comforting. It almost feels like I'm buried in his arms.

  4. Lucy, I know exacty what you mean. A special smell or a certain sound, and suddenly I'm five years old again, snuggling with my father as he reads a bedtime story. Bittersweet memories.. :-)
